Gas Main Replacement

Municipal, Planning, Power & Energy, Survey | Wisconsin | Back

Challenge

This gas main replacement in the City of Kaukauna, Wisconsin, was a We Energies betterment of system project.

The goal was to replace all of the city’s gas mains and laterals in four phases of design and construction. This required replacing 2-, 4-, and 6-inch threaded wrapped steel gas mains from the early 1960s located in the roads and alleys with over 50,000 linear feet of new polyethylene gas main.

Solution

Kapur designed the new gas facilities, taking into account other subsurface infrastructure in the area based on field locates, as-built data, and coordination with the other utilities.

Our experienced design staff provided We Energies planning engineers with recommendations during the design process. This simplified construction and resulted in a more cost-effective product.

Kapur developed an emergency action plan for phase construction and provided all of the necessary construction procedures to connect the new gas facilities while abandoning all existing gas facilities.
