Challenge

The Tri-County Freeway in the Fox Valley region of Wisconsin is a vital transportation route for Winnebago, Calumet, and Outagamie Counties that was experiencing safety concerns and heavy traffic demands. WisDOT required a solution that addressed the safety issues and improved traffic flow within one of the state’s commercial, residential, and recreational epicenters.

Solution

Kapur was part of the joint venture selected to deliver this much-needed freeway expansion. The selected alternative reconstructs and expands approximately 6 miles of WIS 441/US 10 from four lanes to six lanes between County CB and Oneida Street (US 10), reconstructs five interchanges, and adds a second bridge over Little Lake Butte des Morts.

Kapur provided survey, preliminary design, and final design, including one system interchange with additional lanes for improved acceleration and deceleration along the ramps, four service interchanges, 23 bridges, three box culverts, 14 retaining walls, sign structures, noise walls, stormwater management ponds, ITS, and lighting.
