Summary:
The Design Lead is a key contributor to the quality assurance and continuous improvement of Gas and/or Electric Major Project work requests. This role leads structured Quality Reviews focused on critical performance areas.
The Design Lead acts as a quality gatekeeper and mentor, collaborating closely with Designers and Managers to ensure adherence to design standards, identify areas for improvement, and foster the consistent application of best practices. Through trend analysis and comprehensive reporting, the Design Lead promotes knowledge sharing, increased awareness, and continuous learning across the team.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct formal Quality Reviews on Gas and/or Electric work requests, ensuring alignment with established design standards and evaluating performance.
- Document review findings, observations, and recommendations in detailed reports to promote transparency and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Identify recurring design quality patterns, challenges, and opportunities for training to enhance team capabilities.
- Provide coaching, constructive feedback, and mentorship to Designers, encouraging technical growth and design excellence.
- Foster an open communication culture that supports knowledge sharing and collaborative problem-solving.
- Assist Managers in recognizing systemic issues, implementing corrective measures, and evolving design procedures to improve overall quality.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in design and quality assurance, ensuring consistency and best practices are applied across all project deliverables.
Qualifications:
- Secondary education in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical is preferred.
- Driver license and reliable vehicle required.
- 5+ years of experience in electric design services, preferably in the residential, commercial, or industrial sectors.
- Proficiently using design software, specifically MicroStation and AutoCAD, with a strong understanding of design principles and best practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with builders, stakeholders, and team members.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to handle a high workload, managing up to 20 projects concurrently.
- Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on producing accurate and error-free designs.
- Patient and adaptable approach to problem-solving, with the ability to navigate challenges and changes in project requirements.
- Self-motivated and proactive attitude, demonstrating a strong work ethic and commitment to meeting deadlines.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards related to electric design services is a plus.
