Kapur provided structural engineering services to the Wisconsin DOT for several bridge replacements along the I-43 North-South corridor project from Silver Spring Drive in Glendale to STH 60 in Grafton. Across this 14-mile corridor expansion, our staff designed three structures, including a new bridge at Highland Road, bridge replacements at County Line Road and Brown Deer Road, and a bridge rehabilitation and widening at Good Hope Road.
The County Line Road Bridge over I-43 borders the Village of Bayside and the City of Mequon. Kapur replaced the two-span haunched steel plate girder bridge with a two-span prestressed girder bridge. Additionally, two MSE retaining walls were provided at the abutments to reduce the required structure depth over the widened facility below, minimizing the amount of roadway approach work. Kapur also worked with University School officials to ensure construction was not disrupting students and faculty during the school year.
