Civil engineering services for the John R. Moses Skilled Nursing Facility project included engineering design for site elements associated with the new skilled nursing facility located on the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King campus.
Working with the State of Wisconsin and the US Department of Veterans Affairs to design the new 192-bed facility, its unique building layout balances a home-like resident experience, resident views of Rainbow Lake, and staffing efficiencies. Residents live in neighborhoods of 24, sharing a kitchen, dining room, and screened porch to promote social interaction; each household of 12 also has a dedicated living room. The building is also connected via a tunnel system to the other buildings on the King campus, facilitating access to other campus support, health services, and social spaces.
The project included comprehensive site improvements to service the new facility, including roadways, parking lots, loading areas, sidewalks, courtyard area, site utilities, site grading, erosion control, and stormwater management. Special attention was given to overall site and building accessibility for the residents of the new facility during the site layout and design. Detailed stormwater analysis and design were required due to the new building being placed within an existing drainage channel serving an extensive watershed, and the project’s proximity to Rainbow Lake.
In addition to beautifully landscaped gardens, a generous physical therapy suite, and a barber/beauty shop, the new building also includes a large member community room where all residents can gather for notable events.
